Fabric Extravaganza!

I know its been a while since I posted, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. This weekend a friend and I went on a quilting weekend.  It was great!  We left early on Friday afternoon and went to the Fabric Extravaganza in NH.  Bought way too much fabric - but who can pass up such bargains?  We then made our way to two more quilt shops and hit JoAnn's Fabrics at the end of our travels.  We went out for dinner and then headed back to her house to begin our weekend of quilting.  Did I tell you it was great?  Saturday we stayed in our pjs quilting until it was time to go to Keepsake Quilting.  Yup - bought more fabric there.  From there we went back to JoAnn's (cause you never know what you missed the first time - or as Karen says "Do I need this?"), got something to eat and then back to our quilting!  Sunday we stayed in our pjs quilting until around 4 pm when we decided it was time to shower and head for home.  The best part of this is that I finished two - yes I said two - quilts.  (Ok, technically I guess they aren't done till they're quilted, but the tops are done.)  I've posted pictures.  My friend, Karen, finished one as well.  It was a great weekend.  Thanks Karen for the hospitality!

Still quilting

Almost a week has gone by since my last post, actually, more than a week - so its time to get busy posting again!  I know I said I was going to try and post daily, but a lot has been going on in my life.

Right after the holidays, my son (who is in tech school at Keesling AFB in Biloxi) got married.  It was pulled together in two weeks time and turned out very nice.  His wife (still sounds funny to me that my baby boy has a wife) will join him in Biloxi if they can get base housing. 

The day following the wedding we found out our 4 year old yellow lab had cancer.  She really got sick quickly and we weren't sure she was going to make it through the week.  She lost about 10 pounds - granted she was overweight to start but that was a lot of weight to loose so quickly.  I started making hamburger, rice and shredded carrots for her and vet started her on steroids -- then we waited to see what our options were.  We took her for a second opinion and that vet confirmed the diagnosis.  He gave us two options, do nothing and she would only have a couple of months to live or do chemo and she could survive 9-13 months.  We chose chemo for her given her age.  We will only continue with chemo if she seems to be tolerating it, we don't want her to suffer.  We also have her brother (black lab) and I know he will be lost when she finally goes.  They have been together since day one - they sleep in the same crate.  We have separate crates for them, but they like sleeping in the same one. 

So, we take one day at a time and if I don't get around to posting, hope you'll understand.  I will contiue to quilt and try to get my UFO list down.  How is everyone else doing on this?  Any New Year resolutions?

As promised!

As promised, I finished up the binding on my two wall hangings.  The pictures aren't the best, but you get the general idea.  I love the one "The Witch Is In".  What do you think? 

Two projects completed - many more to go!!!

Cleaning up my quilting closet

I decided that in order to get some projects finished I would need to organize my quilting closet.  Yes I said closet - wish I had a quilting room but for now I am designated to a quilting closet - oh lets not forget all the material in my bedroom closet, and under my bed, and in the basement in bins.  But those can wait - for now lets just deal with the closet.  I spent two hours working on two shelves.  I took everything out and went through it.  It took me two hours and at that point I was exhausted so the rest of the shelves will have to wait.  I found three baby quilt tops all done just waiting for border and quilting.  Who was I making these for?  I have no idea!  One of them was totally done by hand so that bad boy is old!  I haven't done that kind of handwork in a long long time.  I think I will try and quilt it by hand and give it to my first grandchild.  None of my kids are married yet, so I should be able to get this accomplished right?  Lets hope!  I found projects and all the fabric for them with the patterns.  I also found some bags that I had made and couldn't for the life of me figure out what had happened to them.  Now I know - the dreaded closet!!!  Anyway, I just finished up two wall hangings and as soon as the binding is sewn down I will post pictures.  I also finished another wall hanging that I had to have - The Witch is In!  Totally me some days.  I will post that as well.  After going through the third shelf, I vowed not to buy any more material until I start using some that I already had.  We shall see how that goes!  What is everyone else doing out there?  How do you keep organized?

I can't believe I haven't posted in nearly a year!  New Years resolution - post at least once a week.  Does anyone else have a resolution already? 

Finished!

I put the label and binding on the quilt over the weekend. Threw it in the wash and it is now DONE! This is a pictures after the wash. I like the way it shrinks up in the dryer.
